These colorful birds made from simple craft materials are fun and easy to make – especially for little hands. Add a discussion on coloration, camouflage and plumage, and your little ornithologist just might gain a greater appreciation for winged creatures.

Materials needed:

  • Paper plates (or cardboard circles)
  • Googly eyes
  • colored card stock for beak
  • Thin strips colored construction paper
  • Craft feathers
  • Paint
  • Glue

Directions:

Fold your paper plate in half to create a crease then, flatten it back out.

Select a color pallet of acrylic paints and let your little one paint the paper plate as they please. Allow to dry or speed up the process with a blow drier.

Glue on the feathers, eyes ann beak. For the tail, staple on strips of colored construction paper.

Fold the plate back in half and you’re done!
