Youth Volunteers 4 Conservation

November 13, 2022 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

We will be cleaning native prairie seeds at this event. As seed comes in from the field, help is needed processing it in order to produce clean seed ready for spreading on restored areas. Hammer milling is the first step in the cleaning process, releasing seed from capsules and breaking apart seed clusters. That step is then followed by using a fanning mill, which separates seed from chaff using multiple screens and fans. Participants should dress appropriately, this work often gets rather dusty. Wear closed-toe shoes. PPE will be provided – bring your own gardening/work gloves if you’d like.

Please register!
