World Water Day event at Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District

March 22, 2018 @ 5:15 PM - 7:30 PM

In celebration of World Water Day, please join us for a special program on the water reclamation, wetland restoration and sustainable infrastructure efforts of Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District. Learn about the efforts to restore 140 acres of wetlands and create high quality habitat that today hosts more than 200 bird and waterfowl species. Participants may also opt to tour the district’s new LEED Platinum certified Maintenance Facility and the struvite harvesting plant, which removes phosphorus from the wastewater stream for shipment out of the watershed.

This year’s World Water Day is focused on exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges of the 21st century. Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District uses natural processes to recycle wastewater and reclaim valuable energy, nutrients and treated water for return to area surface waters. The MMSD Wildlife Observation Unit was established in 2001 as part of the district’s mission to protect public health and the environment.

Featured Speakers:  Paul Nehm, Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District retired director of operations and maintenance
Clare Carlson, Capital Springs naturalist coordinator
