Women’s* Restoration Workday at Holy Wisdom Monastery
June 11 @ 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
FreeExciting news! We’re partnering with the land restoration team at Holy Wisdom Monastery to host a Women’s* Restoration Workday!
Why a Women’s* Workday? It can often be hard for women, folks who are non-binary/transgender, and other gender minorities* to feel comfortable using chainsaws and brush cutters in a typical restoration workday environment. These workdays are meant to create space for such folks that would benefit from this event and to build community in Dane County. We welcome any level sawyer and folks interested in equipment operation. Not interested in operating? Perfect! We also need brush haulers and folks interested in using a parsnip predator to go after invasive weeds.
Sign-Up is Required: signup.com/go/TGjFrdr
Arrive by 8:50 am as we plan to start at 9:00 am sharp. In case of cancelation due to weather, a notification will be made via mail and phone to participants who have signed up.
About:
During these workdays, staff and volunteers work to restore land by removing invasive brush (e.g. honeysuckle, buckthorn) and trees invading the desired habitat (usually black locust, boxelder, cherry). Two roles are needed to be filled by volunteers – a Hauler and Sawyer role. We will give an introduction and training to those unfamiliar to this workday. Volunteers should dress for and be ready to work in most weather conditions, and wear clothing that you don’t mind working in. Boots or other closed-toe shoes/work shoes are required. Bring drinking water, a snack, and anything else you might need to be comfortable.
Additional details are in the above sign-up link.
