Welty Environmental Center is ready for the 2024 summer camp season! We will be investigating, exploring, building, experimenting, and crafting while learning about wildlife and natural resources around the Stateline area. Bring your bikes, skates, hoverboards, and/or scooters on Wheel Day Fridays to explore trails around Big Hill Park in a new way. Don’t forget to pack extra clothes as we will be getting wet and dirty while structure-building, fishing, swimming, and so much more! We would LOVE to have your camper every week, but you can sign up for one week at a time. Please pre-register one week in advance. Take note of the dates as our summer camp schedule has changed. Keep an eye out for additional camp opportunities during the summer at Welty!

CAMP SCHEDULE:

Animal Architecture | July 29-August 2, 2024 | Put on your hard hats because Welty will transform into a construction site for this camp. Animals have always been building and designing, and many humans have been inspired by what animals have made in nature. This camp will explore the world of animal architecture and their reasons behind building. Campers will also be challenged to identify structures that humans have copied and make structures of their own!

From Screen to Green | August 5-9, 2024 | Let’s take our favorite video games into nature! In this camp we will learn to collect resources and build like Steve from Minecraft, explore the wonders of Animal Crossing, meet the animals who inspired Pokémon (and try to catch them all), and go outside with Link and Zelda. With each day inspired by a video game, we will make a great connection to nature.

Farm2Table | August 12-16, 2024 | Where does our food really come from? This camp will teach how our food makes it from the farm to us! We will discover the importance of pollinators, identify what parts of the plant we eat, and practice foraging in the park. We will also learn about the journey food takes to get to us and how eating local foods could help our environment.

Welty-ology | August 19-23, 2024 | In this camp, we will focus on one “ology” (the study of a subject) during each of the five days. Discover fossils and dinosaurs in paleontology, dive into the mysteries of water in hydrology, become a tree expert in dendrology, dig deep in the dirt with pedology, and learn all about animals with zoology!

Camping and Outdoor Basics | August 26-30, 2024 | Do you have what it takes to leave behind modern technology and find your way through the forest? By popular demand, Camping and Outdoor Basics camp is back! We will learn to survive in the great outdoors by starting fires, building structures, fishing, orienteering to find geocaches, and more! After this camp, you will be an outdoor pro! Registered campers and their families will be invited to a camp family cookout on Friday, August 30th, to celebrate the end of the summer.

CAMP LOGISTICS

Registration is limited to a set number of campers each week based on physical space and staffing. Each camper must be registered separately. Sign-up is for the entire week. Refunds will not be issued due to missed days.

• If you register your camper for multiple weeks, refunds will be issued only for full weeks:
  • 14 days in advance 100% – a $5.00 processing fee
  • 7 days in advance 50% – a $5.00 processing fee

We will strive to be outside as much as possible. We will only head inside if the weather does not permit us to be outside.

Lunch and snacks should be packed and are the responsibility of the caregiver. Due to the risk of food allergies, please encourage your camper to not share or trade food with other campers.

Welty is taking specific steps to keep all campers healthy during each session. If you choose to have a camper participate in this program we follow these protocols:

• If your camper is showing symptoms of illness, they should be kept at home. At any time a camper shows symptoms of illness, campers will be asked a few heath questions and have their temperature taken. They may be sent home. Refunds for missed days will not be issued.
  • Campers will be allowed to return after 24 hours of controlled temperature without medication. A refund for missed days will not be issued.
• Masks may be worn by anyone involved with camp at anytime if they are getting over a respiratory virus or are more comfortable wearing one.

After registering, please complete the 2024 Summer Camp Emergency Contact Information. Please note that emergency contact information is due 7 days before the first day of camp. All campers must have medical insurance.
