Remnant Prairie Restoration Workday at Stewart Lake
December 7 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
FreeJoin the Friends of Stewart Lake during their “goat squad” workdays as they continue restoration work on a beautiful remnant prairie on the hillsides of Stewart Lake County Park. Remnants are special because they are prairie habitats that have been untouched by agriculture, making them intact pieces of history. Learn more about them here!
Volunteer to help remove invasive weeds and woody vegetation, move brush onto brush piles to be burned this winter and other work tasks to restore this rare historical remnant prairie. Work will be slower and more methodical to thoroughly remove and treat woody invasives and maintain the high-quality nature of this precious ecological site. Enjoy a few hours outdoors at this beautiful location in helping to restore this special remnant prairie. Your help will be very appreciated!
What to bring & wear:
- Bring drinking water and snacks if you’d like.
- Dress for the weather and wear appropriate clothing that you don’t mind working in.
- Wear sturdy closed toe shoes that have good traction (work will be on the lower steeper part of the hillside).
- Consider wearing shoes that provide ankle support.
