About: You are invited to join Dane County’s Land Management staff in the next step of our prairie seed restoration process. On January 3 and 4 we will be weighing, bagging, and labeling seed planned out for restoration sites across the county. On the 8th and 10th we will plan to pre-mix the weighed seeds for each planned planting site with chaff, which helps to facilitate an easier, in-field planting process. This is the last step before the seed will be dispersed to a variety of prairie plantings planned for the year.

No prior experience is needed. All tools and training will be provided. Participants can either stand or sit at a table, must be able to properly portion out seeds onto a digital scale using scoops and other hand tools. Children are welcome as long as they are supervised by a parent or adult chaperone (youth older than 15 can attend unsupervised).

What to know/bring: We will be working indoors in a heated building with bathroom access. There is drinking water available but participants can bring their own water bottles and a snack if they’d like. We will take a 15 minute break at 10:30am for the morning shifts, and at 2:30pm for the afternoon shifts. Please do not attend if experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms. 

Space is limited and registration is required. At this time we are limiting participants signing up to two spots in total to give more people the opportunity to join us at these limited events. We will lift the shift restriction if all spots are not filled by December 29th and will notify participants of additional available spots. **Children and young adults 15 years and younger may be included with a parent/chaperone to total 1 participant (when signing up your children, please sign up as one participant and let us know either with the signup.com comments or via email how many children will be coming with you – please limit children to two per adult). Those who are 15 years and older can participate without parental supervision and can sign themselves up.**
