Healthy Forests – Healthy Waters
June 11 @ 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Water health and forest ecosystems go hand-in-hand, and school forests provide many opportunities for engaging students in learning about this relationship. Whether in urban environments or the Northwoods, water is directly linked to trees and forests and connects these different parts of our state. Get inspired to teach about water at your school forest or other local site. Participants will explore how a single tree or forest can benefit water quality. A variety of resources and curricula will be shared, including LEAF’s Urban Forestry Guide with middle school updates, Project Learning Tree, and the UWSP K12 Aquatic Education Collaborative among others. While middle school is the focus, most of the activities are adaptable for younger and older learners and participants can expect to add plenty of resources and skills to their toolbox.
