Attention Natural Areas Volunteers:
Are you interested in doing more than attending the occasional volunteer restoration day? Do you have the desire to help restore areas within our park system that may not be getting as much help as you think they deserve? This Certified Land Steward Orientation, and the corresponding handbook, help to train and empower volunteers who want to take a leadership role on restoration projects within county natural areas. Lead volunteers are those going the extra mile to combat exotic weeds, clear out invasive trees and brush, collect native seed, and make our natural areas shine!
With 12,000+ acres in the park system, it’s critical that we embrace and maintain a system of policies and procedures to keep us organized and informed. Such a system helps us to work cooperatively, ensuring that we are all on the same page and pulling ahead together towards a common goal.
This orientation provides an overview of the Natural Areas Program and offers guidance on how to work safely, efficiently, and get the most out of your volunteer experience. Topics discussed include: land management tools and techniques, invasive species control, proper herbicide use and safety, and much more!
