Bird & Nature Adventures | Turville Point

August 14, 2022 @ 1:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Mushrooms & Fungi ~ Join Master Naturalist Kathlean Wolf for a guided tour or take a walk on your own any day in August to see if you can spot some of the hundreds of different species of mushrooms and fungi that grow along the trails. Look high and low, especially around decaying logs and on tree snags. Remember to stay on the trail and not pick things since this is a Conservation Park. Fungi come in an amazing variety of shapes and colors! The part you see is only a small part of the organism. These important components of the ecosystem help break down decaying organic matter and provide important food for a wide variety of birds, insects and wildlife.

Follow rolling hiking paths through the Turville Point Conservation Park woodlands and prairie with beautiful vistas of Lake Monona and Monona Bay. Walks at Turville Point held on the 2nd Sunday every month are co-sponsored by Madison Bird City FUN partners, Madison Parks, Friends of Olin Turville , and Madison Audubon Society . Meet at the Turville Point parking lot, entrance at the E. Olin Ave. stoplight from John Nolen Drive at the railroad tracks, south of Olin Park (not at the boat launch). No registration is required. No pets are allowed.
