Bird & Nature Adventures | Starkweather Creek Area

February 17 @ 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Winter Seed Greenhouses ~ Join Naturalist Paul Noeldner for a free fun educational family friendly hands-on activity to learn about native Wisconsin  wildflowers seeds and take some home.  Bring along a sled if you have one and enjoy some winter fun on Sled Hill and hot cocoa and smores around a campfire!  Did you know native wildflower seeds need to freeze and thaw or “cold stratify” to germinate?  Learn how to make a simple Winter Native Wildflower Seed Greenhouse from a plastic jug and some potting soil and take it home to set outside to ‘stratify’ and plant the new shoots in Spring!  Native seeds and materials will be provided.  We may take a short walk to observe some wildflower plantings at Olbrich Gardens.

Meeting Location: 3301 Atwood Avenue, meet at the Olbrich Park Sled Hill parking lot by Lake Monona
