An Evening at Cherokee Marsh for Kids

The marsh comes alive in spring, especially in the evening. Join us for this special evening hike of the marsh as we look and listen for spring birds such as the sandhill crane, snipe, waterfowl and the interesting woodcock. We will take about a 1 mile hike to see and hear birds and then wait and listen and watch for the woodcock at dusk. The woodcock make a loud “peenting” sound which can be heard from the trail. They then fly into the air and do a whirling dance that is a sight to see. A snack will be provided on this hike. Dress for the weather and wear shoes that can withstand some water. The trail can be wet if there has been a recent rain. We will cancel this event if weather is severe.
