Below is the WP Gallery with Masonry Effect from Meow

There is a caption option that appears with a mouse-over – but each image would need to be updated (you can see that I’ve updated a few to see how it looks).

Whatever effect is set in Meow will apply to all WP Galleries. So, we’d have to agree that that look works on all the pages, including Wildlife Wed.

I’ve added the weblink to a few images, too – that would need to be updated for each image as well.

How to create:

In Word Press Page, click “Add Media” and then on the left column, “Create Gallery.” You can select multiple images. Once the gallery is created, you can click on the pencil to add captions and or links to each image. The Meow effect works in the background.

Pros: pretty easy to set up and to modify – the gallery is right on the page, not created elsewhere and shortlinked in.

Cons: don’t love the roll-over caption – might need to modify those to just a few words each. The images are looking pretty huge on the page – maybe that’s just because I’m used to the original??

Below is the FooGallery w Circle Logos

How to create:

FooGallery plugin is found on the left column dashboard. I’ve created two galleries to start – it’s pretty self-explanatory – you could easily create one for Wildlife Wed too.

Pros: easy to build out and a add shortlink to the page – I like the neat/tidy look of the circle logos

Cons: creating a link to the site is a bit of a work around – I did this for the ALNC logo, for example, by adding html to the image caption – but it’s not perfect since the text does not all fit. Again, the captions seem to be problematic.

Below is the FooGallery w Masonry

Pros: same as above – I like this masonry look better than the WP with Meow

Cons: this one is a more direct link to the member webpage but it seems like the captions are still an issue – I did some updates to the ALF and ALNC images (ie caption and custom url) and we’d have to do that for all images. Maybe if we play around with the gallery settings, we’d get to the look we want… Also, strangely, when I add the custom url to the image, the masonry gallery seems to work but not the tile gallery (with the circle logos) – unless I just did something differently in the gallery settings of each?

The other down side is: we recently went through and updated the titles of the images to say something like “AFL logo” so we could find them easily when creating content. Using FooGallery might mean changing those title, depending on how we manage the gallery settings to get the look we want.

Below is the original Pinterest Gallery

I’m not really hating this one, provided it’s working correctly and as we know, moving forward it might not be. Maybe check in with your Wildlife Wed page again to see if this plugin is behaving how we want – or if we’re ready to ditch it.
