The 2021 Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival has been canceled. We are planning some fantastic online events. Join us for a CELEBRATION OF CRANES!
January 11-16 – Interviews with all our partners! Each day on Facebook, we’ll post a brief interview with some of the folks that make this festival successful. Meet the manager of the Hiwassee, Visit with Miss Nancy and the Cherokee Removal Memorial, Learn birding tips with longtime volunteer, Charles Murray AND MORE.
January 11 – The International Crane Foundation Crane Stories –Join educators from the International Crane Foundation as they share stories about cranes from all around the world! This prerecorded program will be a fun, active way for your young Craniacs to learn about cranes and culture. LINK TO BE PROVIDED
January 13 – The International Crane Foundation Sandhill Crane Talk with the International Crane Foundation-Web Site to be Announced.
Grab your favorite mocktail (or whip up the crane-berry mocktail below) and join Taylor from the International Crane Foundation as she talks about the Sandhill Cranes that we see here in Tennessee. Taylor will also provide us with a special virtual tour of the International Crane Foundation zoo and headquarters in Baraboo, Wisconsin! A period for questions will follow the program. Information and log in will be provided here soon.
Hot Spiced Cranberry Cider
Prep: 15 mins
Cook: 25 mins
Total: 40 mins
Yield: 25 (4 ounces) servings
2 quarts apple cider
6 cups cranberry juice
¼ cup packed brown sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
1 ½ teaspoon whole cloves
1 lemon, thinly sliced
In a large pot, combine apple cider, cranberry juice, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and lemon slices. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. With a slotted spoon, remove cinnamon, cloves, and lemon slices. Serve hot.

January 16 – Cranes at the Hiwassee! Can’t make it to the festival? Join us on Facebook for time with the birds. We wish we could join you with a live video feed (limited cell service) but we will answer questions live, Saturday, January 16 at 8:00 a.m.
