Presentations in the Park – Monarch Butterfly Biology & Conservation

July 22, 2021 @ 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The Lussier Family Heritage Center will be hosting a variety of speakers throughout the summer, this week’s presentation is curtesy of Dr. Karen Oberhauser from the UW Arboretum.

Gates open at 5:30 PM and the presentation starts at 6:00 PM.  Please bring your own chairs or blankets and set up 6 ft. from other attendees.  Arrive early to get some dinner from a local food truck and drinks from Delta Beer Lab.

**Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash and not disruptive.

Monarch butterfly populations have been declining over the last 20 years. It is important to move beyond documenting this decline, and toward responding to the challenge posed by monarch conservation, and insect conservation in general. Dr. Karen Oberhauser will describe the amazing biology of migratory monarchs, how citizens and scientists are documenting monarch numbers across their migratory cycle, and what the Arboretum and other individuals and organizations are doing and can do to preserve this charismatic insect for generations to come.
